Highlights: Neurologist ordered an MRI due to atypical migraine symptoms in children. Doubled preventative med. Going to the chiropractor tomorrow. Missed two days of school this week.
It was becoming overwhelming to post every day between taking care of Jack, my own migraines, and work, so I am posting updates here and there when I can.
Jack has continued to get migraines most days. Last weekend, he played his last soccer game, but he really didn't seem to be doing well. He said he had a migraine afterward and missed his end-of-the-season party. He missed Eliot's game as well. On Sunday, he felt bad again and didn't think he could make it to Cub Scouts. I told him that I really needed him to come because we were having a new Scout and we also needed to drop off the books for our book drive. He made it and did OK. He was talkative and friendly. I got him and Eliot icecream on the way home after dropping off the books. Our pack collected 235 books for Little Free Libraries of Chesapeake!
Jack missed school on Monday. He slept from 7:00 AM until about 10:30 AM, so he really wasn't feeling great. After his nap, I got him lunch and he felt a lot better, but not well enough to go back to school.
Tuesday, he went to school and everything was fine.
Wednesday was the neurologist appointment. He woke up with a headache and it got worse throughout the day. He missed Taekwondo, which disappointed him because he's trying to get to test for the next belt next week and he has to attend a certain number of classes. He still has time to get the right number of classes in, though. I tried to encourage him.
At the neurologist, we didn't have any awesome breakthroughs or a new amazing treatment plan. I figured we wouldn't, but I hoped the neurologist could set us in a good direction that would be successful. The neurologist was concerned about some of Jack's symptoms. He said that they "raised red flags" and that Jack needs an MRI. That is scheduled for June 10 at CHKD. He will go under anesthesia for it since kids are unable to stay still long enough for the MRI. The neurologist said he didn't think it was a tumor, but we need to check for other "abnormalities" to treat. It will probably be nothing, but I am glad to be precautious.
Jack's preventative medication doubled and I pushed for an anti nausea medication just in case. Sometimes Jack throws up from the pain of migraines. This medication should only be used when absolutely necessary. I will be glad to have it in case of an emergency.
I made a chiropractor appointment for Jack for tomorrow morning. When Eliot had migraines (at almost seven years old), he had them almost every day and one trip to the chiropractor set him straight. They went away completely! Eliot now gets maybe one or two a year. I am trying not to get my hopes up, but it is worth a try. We are going to the same doctor and I was so glad that she was able to get us in quickly.
