It's been a little while! Jack's migraines have been mostly under control. He has not missed any school.

On Wednesday, May 5, we had his cardiologist appointment. His EKG came back normal, but the cardiologist did hear the same variable heartbeats that the pediatrician notices. Also, Jack has said that his heart "burns" (but not like heartburn) and he feels dizzy at times. Jack is wearing a heart monitor for 30 days to track his heartbeat. If he feels unwell, he can push a button to let the doctor know. Then the doctor can compare his symptoms with the data. Also, if data is abnormal, the doctor will get a text message or phone call. It's pretty cool!

Jack, though, does not think it is that cool. The device is large and he has wires connected to his chest at all times. Finding a way to clip on the monitor has been hard. It doesn't clip on easily and it is large in his pocket (sometimes too big for his pockets). He has two pairs of athletic pants with zippers on the pockets, so we're trying that. He doesn't want kids to see him with it at school, and he didn't want to go to soccer practice. He also said he had a headache that day, so we stayed home to rest.

To keep things positive, I ordered a set of five arrowheads. Jack will get to pick out one arrowhead a week to help him get through the day. Then at the end of the month, he has a big (but not too big) surprise. I ordered him a handmade spearhead. As you can tell, Jack is really into primitive tools, survival skills, etc.

On Saturday, he was doing well enough to play at his soccer game. The weather was cool and he wore his zipper-pocketed pants. He did well in his game and it was great to see him run around and play without worrying about the monitor. I offered to take him to tryouts for the advanced soccer league, but he just didn't want to because of the monitor and his head. I hope we will get past these health issues and he will grow in his confidence next fall. It has been such a hard year.
