Highlights: Slow to get up this morning. Woke up with a
headache; said it was a moderate migraine. He ate oatmeal for breakfast and
said he was still hungry; ate yogurt. Was in good spirits before school. Went
to school on time. Went to the nurse for Ibuprofen at 1:20 PM. He said his headache went away completely with the Ibuprofen, but came back when the medicine wore off.
Jack is generally a slow riser and said he was very tired this morning. I gave him an additional 15 minutes to sleep (until 6:45 AM) and he got up with minimal protesting. He said his head hurt, ate oatmeal and yogurt for breakfast, and then played for a while. He was talkative and in a good mood. I offered Ibuprofen, but he said that he takes it before lunch. He is establishing his own routine and I am happy that the Ibuprofen is helping. At the same time, I don’t think consistently taking Ibuprofen is a safe long-term patch to the problem. We will need to take some days off. Jack went to the nurse for Ibuprofen at 1:20 PM. He said his headache went away completely with the Ibuprofen, but came back when the medicine wore off.
I haven’t heard from the neurologist yet. I’m anxious to get that appointment scheduled.
Jack's pediatrician said it was fine for him to play sports and remain active, but I am a little worried about his heart with playing soccer. He loves to play and is one of the stronger players on his team. Advanced tryouts are coming up at the beginning of May and I’d love for him to have that opportunity. However, that is a larger time commitment and if the cardiologist advises against sports at some point, we’ll probably feel like we’re letting the team down. He missed practice this past week because of a migraine, which could become a pattern as well. It is best for us to stick with rec for now and just see how this all pans out.
